• Aster is from ~~~Animalia-verse~~~ where sometimes in times of trauma, a person can gain at-will animal powers as a defensive tool-- however, these people are discriminated against in broad society


• one day at around 9 years old, Aster was sick and his mother went out to get medicine from another village-- thinking their home was empty, a few thieves broke in


• instead of running when they saw Aster, they tried to kill him, and Aster gained a bear Animalia to defend himself


• knowing that the escaped thieves would try and bring back authorities after seeing his Animalia, Aster ran away from home, and was not able to reunite with his mother


• he continued traveling around from town to town, making a living doing odd jobs and picking up different skills until he inevitably revealed his Animalia doing something ~noble~ and had to go running again


• at around 20, he meets Zoah, a backalley doctor with underworld connections who's on the run from authorities for his own reasons


• Aster then promptly gets himself tangled up in Zoah's troubles and makes it worse, necessitating that the both of them pick up and go on the run

AS ABOVE Aster's spent most of his life working odd jobs, traveling place to place, and trying to hide that he's an Animalia, the consequences of which can run from social isolation to actual arrest, depending on the climate of that particular region. Aster grew up near the border between his country and another that has an even worse anti-Animalia sentiment, and with all of those things together, he's pretty closed off from other people. He still carries guilt over abandoning his mother, and does take a little bit to heart the stigma that his Animalia makes him a monster due to the amount of damage his bear Animalia can inflict, making him wary of getting close to other people. As such, he appears cold and stoic superficially, not expressing his emotions well and not very socially skilled after holding himself at a distance from others for years.

However, despite not seeking out connections with others, Aster doesn't dislike or look down on people as a whole, though he doesn't trust easily knowing that that good-will won't necessarily be returned if someone learns his Animalia nature. But, if given the chance to form a connection and accept someone else's kindness, he's very thoughtful and can be a very loyal friend. He thinks a lot about how people's situations can be improved, and he's very protective of kids and other people who don't have a lot of power to protect themselves. While he doesn't exactly have a temper where they're concerned, he does have a strong sense of justice and has gotten in countless fights or blown his cover as an Animalia many times on other people's behalves. He's a little embarrassed about his reckless behavior and lack of control in these situations, but he really just wants others and himself to be able to get along peacefully-- something he'll likely end up working toward in Court.

objective: One of his objectives is (OBVIOUSLY, GOSH, I'M APPING A FURRY) being ~intimate~ with his Animalia activated. Getting to a point where he'll be able to let himself that close to others will be a big step in the first place, but letting someone know he's an Animalia in that context and coming to where he can think of his Animalia positively enough to want it to be a part of that will be even bigger. The positive feedback could be really interesting in how it will cause him to think about his own Animalia!
